Older Americans Month is important in celebrating the achievements and sharing the stories of many elderly people. It is a great time to celebrate the wonderful contributions made by older adults, as well as to express gratitude for their years of positive influence and dedication in their own communities. The Communities of Strength theme seeks to put emphasis on the power of connection and engagement in building strong communities. A feeling of community is important to have to share both the joys and difficulties of life. It can be therapeutic to share experiences and find connections with one another. Connecting with others plays a huge role in our health and well-being and can be one of the most important things that we can do to nurture ourselves.
If you or someone you know is looking to get involved/connected in the senior community, be sure to check out what your local senior center has to offer! Many senior centers put on classes and programs that can help seniors find friends with common interests or hobbies.
You can also celebrate by thanking an older American for their contribution to society, or asking to hear their story.
