Message from the Office

Here we are again, at the start of another season. Leaves tinged in red, yellow and orange, apple picking, pumpkin spice lattes, crisp autumn
days...these are a few of our favorite things about fall.

Speaking of fall...or falling, October is National Physical
Therapy Month and National Chiropractic Health
Picture
Month. Chiropractic science deals with the health of the spine and alignment in our bodies. Being adjusted and in correct alignment helps our flexibility and balance. Being well-balanced means we can prevent slips, trips and falls. Of course, there are times when it can’t be avoided, but having good balance can help us catch ourselves if we do slip, trip or fall.

Enjoy the beautiful weather, scenery, nature and your seasonal activities. We wish you a safe and happy October.
                                                        ~ Golden Horizons Office Team

Caregiver of the Month

October 2018: Jacqueline B - When Jacqueline entered the Golden Horizons office in 2018, our first impression was of a friendly, steadfast person who was ready to work. We were quickly proved
correct. Jacqueline jumped right in accepting shifts, always arriving punctually and communicating with the office. She has demonstrated consistency, care and professionalism. Congratulations Jacqueline!

Mr. W’s Newsletter Inspiration

“A man who limits his interests limits his life.” ~ Vincent Price
Cultural Tidbit: Vincent Price , born May 27, 1911, was an American actor best known for his roles in classic horror films. His career spanned both movies and television and several genres including drama, comedy, mystery, film noir and thriller. Price was famous for his patronage of the arts. He graduated from Yale with a degree in Art History. He was an art collector and a gourmet cook. He released several recipe books with his second wife. Price died on October 25, 1993, having lived a full life.

Golden Horizons' Annual Training Month

It’s that time of year again, Golden Horizons’ annual training month. Over the course of these next few weeks, we will be reaching out to all our caregivers who need to have their in-service training updated. At Golden Horizons, we strive to make sure our caregivers are up-to-date and fully prepared for the services they are providing to our clients. The safety and well-being of our
employees and clients are our utmost priority.

October Caregiver & Client Birthdays

National Health Months Across the Board

Explore more on these topics below this month on our blog: www.goldenhorizonseldercare.com/golden-horizons-blog.

National Chiropractic Health Month - How is your balance? Do you have knee or muscle pain? Do you have chronic back pain? These are a few of the symptoms that chiropractors can help with. The chiropractic field focuses on our human infrastructure, dealing with our musculoskeletal health and movement. Chiropractic services most often deal with back pain, neck pain, joint pain in our extremeties and headaches. Chiropractors are most often associated with expertise in spinal manipulation and practice a conservative, drug-free approach to health and pain relief. This
year, their theme is Move 4 Life. They are raising awareness and getting people moving for their better overall health.

National Physical Therapy Month - Fixed well in conjunction with chiropractic health is National Physical Therapy
Month. Both focus on our musculoskeletal structures, movement, joints, balance and drug-free recovery. America is facing an opioid and pain killers addiction problem. The more often patients are prescribed heavy drugs as their primary treatment, the more likely addiction can happen (*Note: This does not mean that prescriptions and pain killers don’t have a place in treatment. They do, and sometimes are necessary). This year, the theme is Choose PT. The
American Physical Therapy Association is raising awareness about the dangers of opioid addiction and the great alternatives that physical therapy can provide for drug-free treatments and recoveries.

National Dental Hygiene Month - The American Dental Association uses October for their campaign to promote good oral health. This year, their theme focuses on helping people maintain healthy smiles with tips on how to properly brush, floss, rinse and chew. Here are a few brushing tips: hold your brush at a 45-degree angle to your
gums; brush outer, inner and chewing surfaces on all your teeth; brush your tongue to remove bacteria.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Pink ribbons, pink socks, pink shirts, pink hats, pink scarves...pink is what we see every October to raise awareness for breast cancer. Many breast cancer symptoms aren’t visible or noticeable without a professional screening or mammogram. The National Breast Cancer Foundation has a guide that tells more about the symptoms and how to be proactive in your health. Go to their website to get your guide:
