August is National Immunization Awareness Month
One of the most well known breakthroughs in history of vaccinations was made in 1796 by Edward Jenner, British physician and scientist. While studying medicine, Jenner observed that milkmaids who contracted cowpox did not contract small pox. Today, vaccines are widespread in their use to help prevent endemic, epidemic and pandemic outbreaks of diseases world over, help boost our immune systems and their naturally occuring antibodies and antitoxins. New vaccines are always being developed to combat new strains of disease. They are applied most often as shots - single, combination, booster - through syringe. The goal is education, prevention and ultimately eradication. They even have allergy shots. Join us this month as we explore the history and application of immunizations. Stay healthy!
