In 2015, 10% of fatal crashes were distraction affected. The National Safety Council estimates that cell phone use alone accounted for 27% of the car crashes. American Automobile Association studies indicate driver distraction is responsible for more than 58% of teen crashes. Traffic expects classify distraction in 3 main categories:
NHTSA leads the fight nationally against distracted driving by educating Americans about its dangers and partnering law enforcement to help keep it safe out there. The NHTSA has stepped up running campaigns and public service announcements regarding this 'grave' situation. Manual, visual and cognitive distractions are no laughing matter.
One of the highlights comes during April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month advertising campaign with a law enforcement crackdown called "U Drive. U Text. U Pay." Texting is the most alarming distraction. According to NHTSA sending or reading a text even "LOL" takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. They make a strong point... At 55 mph, that's like driving the length of a football field with ones eyes closed. These blood facts and statistics demonstrate the need for an abundance of blood donors, especially for the following fact alone: "Most donated red blood cells must be used within 42 days of collection".
Road Crash Statistics indicate that there are over 2.35 million people each year that are severely injured in a car accident within the United States. The numbers are staggering, especially for seniors and young adults! In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash stats reveal that "the over-65 age group had the highest number of fatalities followed by the 16-to-20 age group among females. In addition, the 46-to-50 age group among males had the greatest increase in fatality rate". Explore more... You may get by with traveling a long distance with a person in the early stage of dementia. Although, as symptoms caused by disorders that affect the brain enhance traveling certainly becomes unpredictable and at least more confusing. Planning ahead with the gathering important documents or information such as their insurance card, passport, physician's phone number, medications and medical records will ease the burden.
