On July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers and Mothers released the Declaration of Independence, stating our intention to forge our own destiny as a nation based one primary principle: Freedom. 

Enshrined in our Declaration and our Constitution are the principles of liberty, justice, self-determination. These principles aren't free. Freedom is a paradox. In order to live free, there is a price. That price is paid in blood, sweat, tears and based in the self-sacrifice of those who take up the cause and don the uniforms of our Armed Forces. Every day, they choose to defend these principles. Every day, they put themselves in harms way. Some pay give their limbs. Some give their lives. They deserve our respect, our admiration, our remembrance and our support. 

Monday is Memorial Day. As you go to your parades, your picnics, your gatherings, take a moment to remember those who have sacrificed, and thank those who are still with us.

A lot of care home facilities need to be considered before selecting the right place for an elderly loved one to stay in. Sometimes it is better to let the old stay in an assisted care home instead of their own home, especially if the concerned person has special needs. Today, London care homes bring support and care to thousands of our elderly population suffering from various kinds of ailments such as dementia and terminal illnesses. Here are the prime considerations to picking out the best of the London care homes. ​

Any care home for the elderly should have the license that allows them to provide such services in the area. Not only that, such a license means that the care home
is regularly monitored and inspected. This again leads to better services all around. Checking with the health department about any care home one is looking into to find out whether it is licensed is a necessity. ​​ ​

2. Services Required

​Not all care home facilities are the same. Some may be experts at dealing with people with Alzheimer's while the next may be good with senior people who need assistance all the time.

Appreciation Month, Older Americans Month, spring weather arriving, Caregiver of the Month, Mr. W’s quote, a puzzle and do you think that May Day and mayday are related? Ready? Here we go.

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of traveling in Europe with some friends. On our way back, we had an overnight layover in Austria. The day we were to fly out, I went for an early morning walk with my friend around the little town we stayed in. Nobody was out. No people, no cars, no bikers, no pedestrians. Come to find out, it was May Day, a recognized holiday in many European countries. It’s roots are in the ancient festival celebrating spring’s arrival, but today is also known as International Workers’ Day, recognizing workers, much like our Labor Day. 

In that spirit, we recognize our employees, the workers who make possible the care of our clients. Thank you. We also recognize our clients, as it is Older Americans Month, and thank them for the privilege of providing services to them, and benefiting from their wisdom and experiences. Many are military veterans. We thank them, and our active military members. They defend our freedoms and come to our rescue whenever we need them.

Speaking of rescue, mayday is the international distress signal. I did a little research, May Day and mayday aren’t related, except that they both say “may” and “day”. As you can see, we have a “May” theme...Whew (sigh) with all that recognition and exploration, it’s time for another deep breath of that beautiful spring air that FINALLY arrived and join us for some deeper exploration!
