Do you know what month it is? It's National Blood Donor Month for sure!

According to the American Red Cross statistics the average blood donation collected is 1 pint. The approximate amount of blood needed for a typical blood transfusion are 3 pints. A single car accident can require as many as 100 pints of blood per victim.
These blood facts and statistics demonstrate the need for an abundance of blood donors, especially for the following fact alone: "Most donated red blood cells must be used within 42 days of collection".

Road Crash Statistics indicate that there are over 2.35 million people each year that are severely injured in a car accident within the United States. The numbers are staggering, especially for seniors and young adults! In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash stats reveal that "the over-65 age group had the highest number of fatalities followed by the 16-to-20 age group among females. In addition, the 46-to-50 age group among males had the greatest increase in fatality rate".

A Message from the Office

“Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no  mistakes in it yet?” ~ L.M. Montgomery

“I can’t go back to yesterday - because I was a different person then.” ~ Lewis Carroll

Isn’t it a grand and refreshing notion to think of tomorrow? As L.M. Montgomery says, it has no mistakes in it. We are free to chart new courses, paint new pictures, dream new dreams, achieve new goals.

Recently, we did a blog post on “Auld Sang Lyne”, roughly translating to "for old times' sake". We associate this song with reflecting on the past year and resolving to do better in the new year. It is important to reflect on our pasts, experiences we’ve had, people we have share our lives with and the blessings we have. Gratitude and self improvement is are valuable and necessary in our lives.

At the start of a new year, our avenues for bettering ourselves take the form of New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, most people will attest to making New Year’s resolutions, but abandoning them  within a few weeks. We say, “Life happens”, or “I’ll do better next year”. The cycle perpetuates.

Over the last several years, our Marketing Coordinator, Caitlin Reynolds, has stated that her New Year’s resolution is to have no New Year’s resolutions. Instead, she has had New Year’s goals. Rather than resolving to do better at something we have already attempted, perhaps we can reach self-betterment through goals we set for ourselves to achieve something new. It is a mind-set switch.

May 2018 be a year of wonder, excitement, joy and health. May you see your goals achieved and new experiences enjoyed. We look forward to continuing to provide stellar care, and even improve upon it, as is always our goal.  Happy New Year!
                                                        ~ Golden Horizons Office Team
