How We Got Started...
When I was growing up, I had a neighbor named Grace. She was a retired nurse with a bad case of rheumatoid arthritis. I used to help her with whatever she needed. She was my mentor. I continued to help her until I was 13 when her family put her in a nursing home. My experiences with Grace continued to influence the path that my life took. While working with Grace, I learned that I enjoyed helping people; I found that I enjoyed seeing and making people happy. That has been a key ingredient in all my undertakings. I went on to get married and raise a family, but when my husband died, I decided to re-enter the world of eldercare. I went back to school for CNA certification and planned to become a nurse. During this time, my mom fell ill. My sisters and I took care of her. While caring for Mom, I was reminded of Grace, and I began to realize the need for quality care in the elder population. I developed a desire to help the elder population and their families get the quality care they need while still maintaining an independent lifestyle. I knew this was the kind of care I would have wanted for my mom. Thus Golden Horizons was born. Today, we serve many families throughout the Connecticut Shoreline and Greater Hartford area. While expanding, we continue with our commitment to provide quality care on a personal level. This is our mission, and seeing the smile on someone’s face because we made a difference is what it is all about. Lisa Gradzewicz |
